Olicana Park is a child-friendly holiday park in North Yorkshire that recently underwent a refurbishment. It offers four self-catering holiday cottages, five luxury cabins, and twenty-nine static caravans on the banks of the River Wharfe. Visitors can enjoy beautiful walks along the river to the ancient Bolton Abbey, play a round of golf at Ato Bingham, or take advantage of fantastic bike riding opportunities nearby. Nearby towns and villages worth a visit include Skipton and Ilkley for shopping, while Malham and Grassington offer beautiful limestone scenery.
Children are spoilt for choice in this part of the world, with many activities to keep even the fussiest children entertained. With Ilkley Lido a mere 5 miles from the park, families will love swimming in one of the U.K.’s last outdoor pools.
Other family-friendly activities include visiting the Medieval Castle in Skipton and Bolton Abbey. There is also the opportunity to spend a wonderful day on the Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway, perfect for any train enthusiast in the family, including the little ones.
Children and adults alike will also love seeing an American Yellow School bus at Billy Bob Ice-Cream Parlour. There are even tables on the bus where they can sit while eating. Following food, many children’s play activities are on site, including a play barn stacked with Hay and plenty of swings.
After tiring the children out, you will find incredible views from the Cow & Calf Rocks, where you can unwind and enjoy the sunset. Should the adults need more relaxation, visiting the nearby Harrogate will provide an excellent opportunity to explore the fantastic Turkish Baths and Spa.
There are various local eateries, and the onsite restaurant is Hamilton’s, separate from Olicana Park. Hamilton itself has a seasonally evolving menu that is dedicated to the celebration of local ingredients.
Olicana Park is close to Addingham Village, which includes some well-renowned pubs and restaurants that serve excellent food and real ale. The town has a selection of pubs catering to cosy evenings in winter and al-fresco options for enjoying the summer sunshine.
You will find many exciting places to eat locally when you venture further afield. Only 10 minutes away, you will discover Ilkley, which has a varied range of eateries, including Betty’s Cafe, which has been in the area for over 100 years. For dinner options, Ilkley caters for a wide selection of different tastes, including Indian and Italian. If you feel like treating yourselves, fine dining restaurant The Box Tree in Ilkley will tickle those tastebuds. If, on the other hand, you prefer a lighter but just as tasty treat, check out Friends of Ham restaurant, which specialises in the finest charcuterie, cheese, craft beer and wine.
Adding an extra 5 minutes to your journey will find you in the market town of Skipton, with it’s Castle and wide range of eateries. A surefire way to excite the children would be a visit to Billy Bob Parlour in the town. With its 1950s American Diner theme, the family can eat in cosy booths or have a table inside the full-size Yellow American school bus. After food, the children can run off energy with plenty of play equipment for those under 9, and catering to a broader age range is the play barns, with all manner of slides and swings, all set among massive bales of Hay to run around and play hide and seek behind. You can be sure the children will be well fed and tired out after a visit here.
