River Dart Country Park is full of excitement and entertainment for the whole family. With various activities included in the admission fee, your kids can let their creativity soar – something thrilling awaits everyone!
There’s so much to do that’s all included in the price of your stay. Choose from various activities, such as an adventure playground, agility trail, climbing pods, football zone, mini zip wire, snake slides, toddlers beach, wooden play fort, jungle fun and much more!
At a cost, you’ll also find a bike park and daredevil activities such as high ropes!
You’ll find delicious, family-friendly food at the Old Sawmill Cafe and Restaurant (seasonal). Don’t fancy eating in? They have a lovely takeaway area at the back, perfect for those warmer days. Next to the Old Sawmill, you can find the Park Shop, which sells a variety of groceries, sweets, ice creams, souvenirs, presents, and camping necessities.
The Oasis Beach Hut is situated near the Pirate Ship and Lake, providing a variety of hot pastries, sausage rolls, ice cream, and a choice of hot and cold beverages (open seasonally).
Of course, you’re welcome to bring your own food, with outdoor picnic tables available. Choose to stay in the bed and breakfast accommodation and have the luxury of a home-cooked breakfast every morning.
They offer everything that camping in the great outdoors is all about: nights under canvas, open-air cooking and perhaps even a little star gazing – in a superb location on the edge of the River Dart.
Many camping pitches are available, and it is just a few minutes walk from the park facilities—contemporary and fully equipped facilities featuring complimentary hot water and showers. There are also covered areas for washing up, laundry rooms in every facility block (coin-operated) and designated spots for water and rubbish disposal.
Let’s start with Holne Park House. On the first level, they have four rooms. Bovey and Cherrybrook are perfect for families as they share a spacious bathroom. Webburn is the main room in the house, featuring a large four-poster bed, a sofa, and a seating area. Dart is a spacious en-suite bedroom with a big double bed, a couch, and a seating area, offering beautiful lawn views through its large windows.
Moving up to the second floor, they have six rooms. Mardle and Yealm are family suites with an additional bedroom and bunk beds for children. These rooms share a sofa, seating area, and a bathroom. Plym and Avon are both en-suite rooms but can be connected through interconnecting doors, making them suitable for families who want a suite. Tavy and Meavy are similar to Plym and Avon, with a connecting door that links the two rooms.
The Coach House provides nine twin en-suite shower rooms. On the ground floor, there are three rooms, including Fox Tor and Hound Tor, which are wheelchair accessible and suitable for those with limited mobility. All rooms in the Coach House are furnished with two single oak sleigh beds, tea and coffee-making facilities, and a T.V. with a DVD player.
Lastly, Holne Park House has that option if you prefer dorm-style accommodation.
While there are plenty of activities to enjoy at the River Dart Country Park, it would be a shame to miss out on Devon’s diverse and unique attractions! Situated within Dartmoor National Park and just a mile away from the A38 Devon Expressway, the park provides a peaceful escape to the beautiful countryside of Devon, with easy access to stunning beaches, resorts, and other places worth visiting.
If you’re close to the South Devon Heritage Coastline, you’ll be treated to 49 miles of unspoiled cliff walks, hidden beaches, charming coves, and picturesque lighthouses. It’s truly an idyllic location! Why not make a day of it by taking a steam train from nearby Buckfastleigh to Totnes and hopping on a boat trip to Dartmouth? It’s a fantastic way to spend your time!
On sunny days, Blackpool Sands, a privately owned beach near Dartmouth, is a must-visit. Don’t forget to visit the famous Venus Cafe for a delightful experience.
Everyone can appreciate the serene beauty of Buckfast Abbey and the historical grandeur of Powderham Castle. And if you have children, they’ll love Paignton Zoo, where they can see exotic animals or feed the lambs at Pennywell Farm. If you’re in the mood for some retail therapy, Dartington Cider Press near Totnes or the nearby cities of Exeter and Plymouth are great options.
