Facilities

The Nightfire event offers a unique and spectacular experience for attendees on a Friday evening. The event kicks off with an air display in the daylight, followed by a nighttime showcase where display aircraft light up the sky with pyrotechnics and fireworks streaming off their wings. These aircraft are equipped with onboard computer-controlled lighting systems that illuminate their wings and fuselage as they perform loops and rolls over the night sky. Following the aerial displays, nightglow balloons are inflated in front of the audience, providing a stunning fire dance coordinated with music. Spectators can watch up to 20 massive, colourful hot air balloons and baskets as their burners roar to life, lighting up the night sky in sync with the music. The evening concludes with a magnificent and breathtaking fireworks show to cap off the wonderful experience.

The air display event features a wide variety of aircraft, including Warbirds, Classic Jets, and Helicopters, and performances showcasing high-energy aerobatics, aerial ballet, and a flying circus. It also includes some of the largest radio-controlled models in the world, so big that they are nearly climbable. Parachute display teams will perform, and attendees will have the opportunity to get up close to some of the aircraft landing on the site’s dedicated runway. The main flying displays are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday afternoon, with a section dedicated to younger visitors to ensure everyone has a spectacular experience.

The event also includes five mass ascents of hot air balloons, weather permitting, from Friday evening to Sunday evening. These ascents feature over 100 rainbow-coloured hot air balloons, including rare and exciting special shapes. Ballooning sessions are planned for early morning and evening to take advantage of the most stable weather and wind conditions.

The Cameron Arena, named after Don Cameron, the grandfather of modern Hot Air Ballooning in the UK, features a balloon tethering area where attendees can get close to historic special-shaped balloons. An expert balloon commentator will explain the process, and there may be opportunities to speak with some of the crews about the Hot Air Balloon Experience.

The onsite camping experience is available for four nights, providing excellent facilities such as food and bar, toilets, showers, and electric hook-ups. The official Campsite for The Midlands Air Festival is within walking distance of the event site and offers a range of camping, caravanning, and live-in vehicle options, complete with 24-hour office and security patrols. Camping is exclusively available to those who have purchased 3-day festival tickets.
