With lodges that are the epitome of glamping, complete with comfortable beds, ample space for lounging and dining, and your own private shower and toilet, as well as the option to soak in a hot tub, you’ll soon realise that you made the right choice.

Food

When it comes to dining, all of the lodges are self-catering, with fully-equipped kitchens, dining spaces, and outdoor eating areas. Each lodge also has its own tripod barbecue, so you can cook up delicious camping suppers whenever you like. There is a retro fridge/freezer on hand for storing perishables, or chilling your beer, and if you’re not in the mood to cook, catering options, farm-fresh meat, cakes, and breakfast hampers are all available. There’s even an option to hire a barn space if you’re staying with a larger group.

The farm also has its own shop, which is open from Easter to October and stocks everything from local produce and grass-fed meat to snacks, artisan gin, and good-quality wine. There’s even a selection of local fruit juices on offer, as well as everything you need to make a delicious cooked breakfast, including the farm’s own sausages and blue eggs from their hens.

Accommodation

Middle Stone Farm has a range of accommodation suitable for families with children of any age and even four-legged friends. The site is very conscious of the environment, so you can enjoy a guilt-free eco-holiday, and there’s a good 4G signal on the farm, as well as WiFi in the holiday cottage.

The dog-friendly large safari tents are available from April to November. The Buzzard, Hawk, and Kestrel lodges, boast identical decor and furnishings both inside and out. They feature a king room, a twin room with two single beds, and a double-sized cabin bed, with a spacious bathroom at the back accessible through either the king or twin rooms. Each lodge can accommodate six guests and features a wood-fired hot tub, barbecue/firepit area, hammock, and picnic table outside. It is worth noting that the hot tub is an optional extra. While Kestrel offers the most privacy as it is in the corner of the field, Hawk is in the middle, and Buzzard is at the other end. Since these lodges are slightly smaller than the others, they feel warmer during colder months.

These lodges are located near the play area, making them a great choice for families with small children. There is also a paddock with goats nearby and the farm shop is within the field too.

The Porlock and Kilve lodges are the largest options and they all have stunning views of the Exmoor hills. The alpacas live close to these lodges, which the kids will love. If you want a secluded spot for the hot tub then the Kilve lodge is your best bet. The dog-friendly, Porlock lodge, has a paddock where guests can let their dogs off their leads and this is just a minute’s walk away from the children’s climbing frames.

If you are looking for larger accommodation sleeping six but in a more spacious setting then the Bossington lodge is the ideal choice. This massive safari tent boasts a king bed in one room, two single beds in the twin room, and a king-size cabin bed. The living room area features a spacious bathroom with a large walk-in shower, loo, and basin. It also has a second loo in a cloakroom and a separate playroom with a sofa. This one is not dog-friendly.

All glamping and cottages have private bathrooms with instant hot water, as well as private hot tubs that are not shared with other guests during their stay. The farm’s accommodation is spread out, ensuring that it is not overcrowded. Proper electric fridges, wood fires, flushing loos, decent-sized hot showers with hot water on demand, sockets to charge a phone, decent lighting, and fairy lighting outside, fire pits, hammocks, and comfortable beds are all included in your stay.

For something a little more sturdy then the The Deckhouse Cabin is perfect for a young family, sleeping two adults in a king bed and two children under the age of 12 in a mini bunk room. It’s a timber glamping cabin, cosy and warm in all weathers and open all year round. The cabin is quirky and rustic, described it as half self-catering cottage/ half glamping. The cabin kitchen is well equipped with mini-oven/hob, microwave, retro style under-counter fridge-freezer. The open plan sitting room has a comfy sofa, wall mounted television, books & games, quirky original pictures and knick-knacks. The modern shower room runs off the open plan space and has a shower, basin and loo. The Deckhouse Cabin doesn’t have WiFi, but there is  good 4G signal around the farm

If glamping doesn’t float your boat, then The Stable Cottage is perfect suitable for a family of four.  The main bedroom at one end of the cottage has a king bed suitable for two adults, and the second bedroom is for children with a pair of small beds suitable for two children under 12 years of age.  The bedrooms and living areas are cheerful and bright with colourful throws and lots of pictures.  The spacious shower room is in the centre of the cottage.

The open plan kitchen and living space has a wood burning stove, comfy sofas, cheerful rugs, mirrors and pictures set against colourful walls.  It has all the mod cons – TV/DVD player, WiFi (rural speed!), central heating, coffee maker, microwave, dishwasher, double oven and fridge/freezer etc.  There are board games, DVDs and plenty of books to borrow during your holiday and an old piano too if you fancy a sing-song (although it is not very well tuned)! There are children’s books and DVDS, and they also provide children’s crockery and cutlery and a basket of toys. There is also space for a single travel cot in either bedroom.

Nearby

Middle Stone Farm is located at the end of a private lane, just a mile away from the charming village of Brompton Ralph in West Somerset. There are plenty of nearby attractions to explore, including Dunster Castle and Knightshayes, as well as the stunning Exmoor National Park, which is just 3 miles away. Exmoor is the least visited National Park in the country which makes it rather special – you won’t see many tourists here, it’s really unspoilt and beautiful.

For river swimming Withypool is perfect for children, it’s very shallow and safe. There’s a good cafe there to or you can take a picnic and eat on the riverbank.

For Pony Riding try The Exmoor Owl and Hawk Centre, which has ponies and Shetlands or you could try the Exmoor Pony Centre in Dulverton, which is a 25 minutes drive away.
