The Helford River is breathtaking, surrounded by ancient oak forests. Exploring the river on a boat is a memorable experience that can be enjoyed between April and the end of October, weather permitting. Two boats are available for hire including the Cygnus 19 riverboat, named Camilla James, and the rowing Anarth tender, Hot Flushing. Guests can use these boats to explore the river and its creeks, mooring alongside small quays at high tide or anchoring off little coves. Why not even try a spot of fishing from the boat?
Sailaway at St Anthony is the company that runs the boats. They will provide visitors with a “Boats Briefing” on their first morning and lend life jackets and buoyancy aids, ensuring a safe trip for the whole family.
This lovely establishment is also surrounded by beautiful terraced gardens that will make visitors feel at ease. Enjoy the front terrace, where there is a magnificent 14-foot table made of reclaimed wood from the old wooden roads of Bali. It’s the perfect place to have fun with the family while watching the world go by! Check out the private garden above the buildings for a more secluded area. It’s a great spot to relax and soak up the sun from early morning until late.
Get ready to whip up some yummy meals in the kitchen! With an Aga and an electric cooker, guests have everything they need to create delicious dishes for the whole family. Two large fridges and a freezer keep ingredients fresh, while the dishwasher makes cleaning up a breeze.
The dining area is perfect for family meals, with a fantastic oak table that comfortably seats up to 12 people (and up to 16 when extended). Whether cooking up a storm or ordering takeout, enjoy a family meal together in this cozy space.
For a real treat, head over to Cadgwith Fish Seller and bring home some fresh fish to cook up a feast. For those in the mood to dine out, Falmouth has plenty of restaurants to choose from.

The sitting room, which features an open fire, has large cottage windows that provide a beautiful view of our terrace and the village beyond. It is an ideal place for the whole family to relax, watch television or a DVD, do a jigsaw puzzle, or play one of the board games provided. There is so much choice that not one family member will be bored.
The kitchen and dining room are combined to create a splendid room. The kitchen is equipped with an Aga, an electric cooker, two large fridges, a freezer, and a dishwasher. The dining area boasts a fantastic oak table that can comfortably seat 12 people and up to 16 people when fully extended. Complimentary Wifi is available during a stay with the password provided in the welcome pack. There is a separate laundry room with a washing machine and a dryer for guests convenience.
There are plenty of things to do nearby, especially for families. Some of the attractions include Coverack, which was once a notorious smuggling spot. This traditional village has a small protected harbour, usually full of fishing boats. The wide beach at Coverack is famous for activities like paddleboarding, windsurfing, and building sandcastles. The Coverack Windsurfing School, which also provides paddleboarding lessons, is based there.
For those looking for somewhere livelier, Falmouth is a thriving, vibrant town with plenty of exciting and unique shops, exhibitions, concerts, street entertainment, and theatrical events happening throughout the year. Pendennis Castle is an excellent example of a Tudor Coastal Defense fort and a great place for the whole family to visit. The Fal Estuary has a striking network of creeks and rivers and is blessed with excellent sandy beaches and cafes. It’s worth riding down the river on one of the passenger boats and enjoying the magnificent scenery.
Alternatively, explore The Cornwall Maritime Museum, The Falmouth Arts Centre, and The Falmouth Art Gallery. Children will love the themed activity pool at ‘Ships and Castles.’
