Overview

Set near Dorking, Polesden Lacey is a 1,600-acre Edwardian estate and former country retreat of Margaret Greville. There’s plenty to explore, from the historic gardens and mansion with its art collections to the wide-open parkland.

It’s a lovely choice for families who enjoy getting outdoors together, with natural play, seasonal trails and space to roam. You can also take children’s scooters and bikes into the pleasure grounds, subject to a handlebar-height limit.

Things to do

Make a day of exploring the estate and let little adventurers set the pace. Family highlights include:

  • Play and explore at Kestrel Corner, the estate’s natural play area.
  • Try den building together.
  • Follow a seasonal trail through the grounds.
  • Wander the historic gardens and enjoy the extensive parkland.
  • Visit the mansion to see its art collections.
  • Bring a children’s scooter or bike for use in the pleasure grounds, with handlebars no higher than 75cm.

Good to know

There are two cafes, baby changing areas and accessible toilets. Dogs are welcome in the coffee shop and large parts of the grounds, but not in the house, formal gardens or main cafe. National Trust members park for free; non-members pay for parking. Check the website before setting out for current opening information.

Standard tickets without Gift Aid: adults £18.00, children aged 5-17 £9.00, families £45.00. Under 5s enter free. Parking: free for National Trust members, £5 for non-members.
