Overview

This holiday cottage is one of two located on the stunning and distinctive site of the Whitby Lighthouse. The lighthouse is situated on the East Coast, just outside the lively and historic town of Whitby, and is close to the North Yorkshire Moors.

The cottage offers stunning sea views and a patio with an enclosed garden. It’s an ideal location for birdwatching and enjoying the unique surroundings. Most impressive is the decked outdoor seating area, perfect for sipping your morning coffee whilst you watch the waves below and take in the fresh sea air. There is also an enclosed garden, great for the kids to run around in.

Vanguard’s kitchen is equipped with an electric hob and oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, and washer/dryer. Additionally, it includes a dining table with seats for five guests and a stunning view of the sea.

If you prefer dining out, you will find plenty of options in the town of Whitby, located just a short distance away. If you’re a fan of the area’s renowned fish and chips, you will be overwhelmed with choices. Trenchers Restaurant, the UK’s best fish and chip restaurant in 2019, is a must-visit destination, offering a vast menu of fish and chips, seafood, and British dishes.

The Abbey Wharf restaurant is another great option, serving up a variety of delicious dishes such as seafood, steaks, salads, and vegetarian options. It also provides a stunning view of Whitby’s famous harbour.

Whitby and its surrounding areas feature a diverse range of cuisine options, including pizza, Thai, Indian, and British restaurants.

Accommodation

The cottage is spacious enough for a family of five, with three cosy bedrooms, one bathroom and one shower room. Inside, you’ll find a bright and airy sitting room furnished with modern furniture, perfect for relaxing after exploring. The well-equipped kitchen and dining room are ideal for family meals and group breakfasts.

The fully equipped kitchen has an electric hob, oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, and dishwasher. There’s also a washing machine and dryer, so you can pack light. The living room is warm and cosy, with an electric effect woodburner, and a TV, DVD and CD player. You’ll enjoy stunning sea views throughout the cottage.

The three bedrooms include a double, twin, and single bedroom, ensuring that everyone in your group has a comfortable place to rest. You’ll have access to a family bathroom and an additional shower room, so there’s no need to wait in line to freshen up.

The large walled garden features a patio area with seating, perfect for enjoying the fresh sea air and soaking up the sunshine. Ample parking is available, so you won’t have to worry about finding a spot for your car.

Nearby

The North Yorkshire coast is a breathtaking place to explore, with many nearby attractions such as Whitby, Sandsend, and Robin Hood’s Bay. If you’re a fan of mountain biking, the nearby Dalby Forest offers world-class trails and a ‘Go-Ape’ climbing centre if you or the kids are brave enough!

Other nearby attractions include Grosmont, the North York Moors Railway, and Goathland, which is famous for its appearance in the TV show ‘Heartbeat’.

The North Yorkshire coast is home to some impressive cliffs that hide small ports, with Whitby being the most significant. Captain James Cook, who made his first voyage of discovery on a ship named ‘Endeavour,’ was apprenticed to a shipowner in Whitby.

Whitby is a charming seaside town with a wonderful old-fashioned feel. Its skyline is dominated by the ruins of St. Hilda’s Abbey, which sits high on Whitby’s East Cliff. The town is a maze of alleyways and narrow streets that lead down to a bustling quayside and the entrance to the harbour. There is a large beach to play on, which sometimes offers donkey rides, and there are also rides and amusements nearby to keep little ones happy.

To the south of Whitby, you can find the coastal villages and resorts of Scarborough, Filey, and Bridlington. Inland, you’ll find the heather moorlands of the North Yorkshire Moors and further afield, the city of York.
