Overview

Porfell Wildlife Park is a haven for over 250 neglected, injured, unwanted, or illegally held animals worldwide. Visitors can closely encounter various species and gain knowledge about their natural habitats in a secure environment. At the African Village, you can discover the Maasai warriors’ relationship with the land and learn more about their culture.

Things to do

During your visit to Porfell, you will be able to explore a variety of exhibits featuring majestic animals and interact with them. You can observe the owls’ daily flight training as they gracefully soar through the sky, watch the coatis as they forage and hunt using their sharp sense of smell, and witness unique reptiles such as the giant leopard tortoise and the bearded dragon in their natural habitats. You will also have the opportunity to hand-feed and interact with friendly lemurs, sit beside them in their enclosure, and even watch them enjoy lunch. Furthermore, there is a Children’s Farm where kids can pet adorable farmyard animals like rabbits, donkeys, llamas, chipmunks, and many others.

The sanctuary is divided into different sections, including the Massai Village, where you can learn about the ways of the Maasai Warrior and explore an authentic African Plains village with traditionally built huts. You can also enjoy exciting displays of craft and clothing that showcase African culture. The town is in the middle of the zebra, eland, and ostrich enclosure, providing visitors with a unique opportunity to experience African life up close with these stunning animals. Additionally, there is the Ancient Woodland, a peaceful area filled with wetland areas that cultivate willow and alder, as well as dry regions that support oak, ash, and beech trees. This area is ideal for enjoying a picnic while experiencing some of Cornwall’s native plants and forest animals.

Food & Drink

After feeding the animals, visitors can head to the Savannah Tea Room for refreshments and a quick bite. The tea room offers a range of food options, such as sandwiches, local Cornish pasties, and drinks, all at reasonable prices. Outside the garden are wooden picnic tables for visitors to sit and enjoy their meals. If they’re lucky, they might witness a magnificent display by the peacocks. On a beautiful day, visitors can relax and watch the animals stroll by. Children love the tea room because they can get close to the animals, feed them, and play in the park.
