Overview

With over 2,000 different animals set in naturalistic indoor and outdoor exhibits, plus adventure play areas and a peaceful nature trail, there’s plenty for all ages to discover and explore.

Things to do

Paignton Zoo Environmental Park is widely recognized as one of the best zoos in Britain, covering 80 acres of naturalistic landscaped grounds. It is home to some of the world’s rarest and most fascinating animals, such as gorillas, orangutans, black rhinos, giraffes, lions, and tigers. In addition, visitors can expect to discover many other animals along the way, including the endangered and oh-so-adorable red pandas.

The zoo’s unique feature is its equal emphasis on showcasing both plants and animals. These grounds were the first combined zoological and botanical gardens in the world. The habitat zones are arranged to display rare and unusual specimens throughout, including the tallest growing tree in the world – the coast redwood, and the fastest-growing plant, the giant bamboo.

The zoo offers numerous facilities to keep visitors entertained throughout the day, including shops, a restaurant, takeaway food outlets, indoor and outdoor play areas, a miniature train, a free bird show, and the hands-on interactive Discovery Centre.

Food & Drink

If you need to refuel during the day, you can easily find food outlets around the site to grab a drink or snack. For a more substantial meal, you can head to the Island Restaurant, located in the heart of the zoo.
