Overview

This unique destination offers the opportunity to walk among a colony of nesting Mute Swans, which can only be found in this location worldwide. It is an incredibly stunning place and one of the top attractions that cannot be missed in Dorset. So, prepare your picnic for an unforgettable day with these majestic birds!

Things to do

Are you interested in experiencing a unique and exciting activity with your family in Dorset? Then head to the Swannery, where you can get up close and personal with numerous swans in their natural habitat. You can visit the observation platform or hide for the ultimate viewing experience.

But that’s not all! The Swannery offers many activities to entertain the kids, including the largest willow maze in Dorset, with distorting mirrors and bongo drums inside. Additionally, there are tractor and trailer rides, pedal go-karts, and a Swinging Nests play area! There’s the Swanherd’s Hut and History Room, the Monks’ herb garden, and the Reed Cutter’s display for the curious minds. Plus, there are several picnic areas where you can enjoy your lunch, but be careful of the rather bolshy birdies who might want to join you!

At noon and 4:00 PM every day, you can even help hand-feed over 600 swans while listening to an interesting talk from the Swan-herd. You’ll learn all about the swans and ducks you’ll see, as well as the fascinating history of the area. It’s the ultimate swan-tastic adventure for the whole family!

Food & Drink

There is a charming and delightful café where you can enjoy various delicious snacks and refreshing drinks. During the day, the café serves delicious espresso coffee, tea, hot chocolate, local beer, cider, and single-serve wines. The kitchen bakes fresh cakes every day, and the café offers a range of favourites, from cream teas to gluten-free and vegan options. The skilled chefs use locally sourced ingredients from trusted suppliers to prepare homemade food with care and love.

The café knows everyone has different dietary requirements and allergies, so they have covered you. They provide gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan products, as well as adjust dishes to meet the needs of their customers. The café is conveniently located just before the entrance to the Swannery, so there is no admission charge for using the catering facilities.
