Check out the Bodmin and Wenford Railway for a fantastic trip back in the 1950s. You’ll experience the charm and thrill of steam travel on a steam branch line.
Are you looking for a fun day out with your family? Look no further than the 13-mile round trip from Bodmin General Station to Boscarne via the beautiful Glynn Valley and Camel Valley. Bodmin General Station has undergone a fantastic refurbishment that immerses you in the 1950s. Additionally, an Exhibition Coach showcases fascinating artefacts and exhibits about the Railway’s history.
During your journey, you can explore the three other stations on the route. Colesloggett Halt is a beautiful spot with a peaceful picnic area and is within walking distance of the stunning Cardinham Woods, where you can follow nature trails. Bodmin Parkway is another must-visit station with a scenic walk along the old carriage drive and an award-winning Station Cafe serving delicious treats. And don’t forget Boscarne Junction, located on the former Bodmin and Wadebridge Railway and directly adjacent to the Camel Trail, one of the oldest railways in the world!
Also, check out the charming gift shop on the 1950s platform, where you can find a delightful selection of gifts and souvenirs to suit all tastes and budgets. The gift shop is open daily.
The Railway hosts many fantastic events throughout the year that are fun for the whole family. Check out their website before you visit to see what’s on.
The cafe at Bodmin General Station is open daily, and trains are running. It offers a range of hot and cold drinks, including Cornish pasties, sausage rolls, freshly made sandwiches, cakes, snacks, and sweets. Additionally, outdoor seating options are available, allowing you to enjoy your food and drink in the sunshine!
If you’re hungry while waiting for your train, you can visit the old signal box on the Down platform at Bodmin Parkway Station. It has been transformed into a Buffet, operated by the Bodmin Railway under the Cornish Rail Coffee Co. franchise. The Buffet offers hot and cold food, snacks, and non-alcoholic beverages, providing a valuable service to mainline travellers, walkers, and the Railway’s passengers.
If you prefer to bring your food and drink, several picnic benches are available on the Bodmin General platform. Furthermore, if you’re looking for a beautiful picnic spot, there’s a picnic area beside the Camel Trail at Boscarne Junction Station. Please note that there are no catering facilities at Colesloggett Halt.
Unfortunately, on-board catering is currently unavailable. However, you can buy food in advance when booking your tickets or visit the coffee shop at Bodmin General for a selection of hot and cold foods you can order on board the train.
For the last train of the day, departing Bodmin General at either 14:50 or 15:45 (please check the operating timetable to confirm the departure time), there’s a special deal that includes a one-branch line ride and a takeaway cream tea with a choice of a hot or cold drink. You can collect this from the Coffee Shop at Bodmin General. Doesn’t that sound great?
