Situated on the historic Fowey Town Quay, this charming little aquarium offers a fascinating glimpse into the sea life indigenous to the Cornish coast. Fresh seawater is pumped in every day at high tide, bringing in various sea creatures like squirts and tube worms. The aquarium was first opened in 1952 and still has some of the original tanks. Although small, there is a remarkable variety of marine creatures on display.
Visitors to this small aquarium will be pleasantly surprised by the range of marine life on display. As you walk through, you’ll go on a journey along the coastline, encountering a variety of fish, including gobies, shannies, and even Conger eels, which are usually found in deep ocean wrecks.
Kids will be fascinated by the various crabs and lobsters lurking in the corners, and they’ll especially enjoy the touch pool, where they can handle a crab or starfish or have their fingers tickled by prawns.
After exploring the aquarium, visitors can purchase crab nets and fishing gear from the on-site shop and try spotting sea creatures in the wild.
Fowey Aquarium is not equipped with food and drink options. However, it is conveniently located on the town quay, where you can easily find places to grab lunch or snacks for your children.
