The National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth is the largest aquarium in the UK, and it is proudly part of the Ocean Conservation Trust, a charity that connects people with the ocean.
Get ready to be amazed by the incredible marine life waiting for you at the National Marine Aquarium! As the largest aquarium in the UK, it boasts over 4 million litres of water and is home to more than 4,000 fascinating creatures, including sharks, rays, and various other species. And, the best part is that by visiting the aquarium, you’re also supporting a conservation charity that works to protect these incredible marine creatures.
Explore six different zones and discover an array of underwater inhabitants, from the local creatures that call Plymouth Sound home to exotic species found at the Great Barrier Reef. And don’t forget to say hello to some of the aquarium’s most beloved residents, including Friday the Green Turtle, Neptune the Giant Pacific Octopus, and Howie the massive Sand Tiger Shark.
But the excitement doesn’t stop there! The National Marine Aquarium also offers daily scuba dive shows and talks by Ocean Experts, providing a unique and informative experience for visitors of all ages. And, for the little ones, there’s even a soft play area where they can let off some steam.
The Waves Café is located on the first floor of the Aquarium and offers stunning views of the Plymouth Sound. It can be accessed through a ramp or lift. The café offers a diverse menu that includes hot food, sandwiches, teas, coffees, hot chocolate, cakes, biscuits, pastries, bottled drinks, and ice cream.
The café is open daily from 10 am to 4 pm, with fresh, hot food available until 2 pm. Even after the kitchen closes, the café offers delicious pasties and sausage rolls that are available all day for those who still crave something hot.
During the summer months, the Garden Kiosk may be open for drinks and light meals, but this is dependent on the weather.
In order to keep the premises clean, visitors who bring picnics are requested to use the designated picnic zones and dispose of their rubbish in one of the many recycling bins located around the building.
