Overview

Families and children who are interested in space exploration can visit the National Space Centre in Leicester. This award-winning centre offers interactive exhibits that showcase spacecraft, planets, and extraterrestrial life. Visitors can even see a real piece of moon rock. The centre has the largest planetarium in the United Kingdom, where families can learn about astronomy and space during an exciting day out.

Things to do

Join the adventure with your family by climbing aboard the famous 42-meter-tall rocket tower and exploring six interactive galleries that showcase the incredible journey of humanity into the unknown. Learn about spacesuits, take a break on the red planet Mars, and witness Venus in three dimensions.

Discover the wonders of Our Solar System through interactive galleries, where you can visit Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. Be amazed by the moon rock, which is rarer than diamonds and gold, and learn about each Apollo lunar lander from prior Apollo flights.

Experience the largest planetarium in the United Kingdom, Sir Patrick Moore’s Planetarium, where you can immerse yourself in the Earth’s orbit and enjoy award-winning space shows like “We Are Stars,” “We Are Aliens,” “Capcom Go,” “Tour of the Night Sky,” and others. If you’re a fan of Lord of the Rings, you’ll love hearing Andy Serkis, the voice of Gollum, narrate parts of the series.

Finally, become a trainee astronaut at Tranquillity Base, where you can map planets, use telescopes, and play with interactive space toys. With tickets valid for a year, you and your family can explore the cosmos whenever you want.

Food & Drink

Exploring space can make anyone’s tummy rumble. However, you can satisfy your appetite at the on-site cafe situated under giant boosters and spectacular rockets.

Boosters Cafe offers a variety of freshly prepared, locally sourced sandwiches and snacks, as well as hot and cold beverages. If you’re looking for something warm and filling, you can try their freshly prepared soup of the day or choose from various delicious dishes, including gourmet hot dogs and warm nachos topped with fresh chilli, cheese, and salsa. And if your little ones have completed their mission successfully, you can treat them to a delicious ice cream milkshake while you enjoy a freshly brewed coffee.

Additionally, if you prefer to enjoy your meal outdoors, indoor and outdoor seating options are available.
