Tower Bridge is an iconic London attraction above the River Thames. Families can explore Victorian engineering and enjoy a unique view of London from the 42-meter-high walkways with glass floors.
Tower Bridge is an astonishing feat of engineering. It has over 13 million rivets that hold it together and moveable roadways for boats that sail along the River Thames. Families can explore Victorian London and the coal-burning steam engines through animations, digital displays, and a guided engine room tour. There’s an exhibition where you can spot London’s famous landmarks, including the Tower of London, The Shard, Tate Modern, and Millennium Bridge.
Walking on the fully accessible, high-level walkways provides breathtaking and panoramic views of London. For the daring ones, stepping onto the toughened glass floors and looking down 42 meters to the River Thames is a must-do. Little ones will be fascinated to spot boats, buses, and cabs moving below.
After exploring the bridge, children can follow the blue line that leads to the engine rooms. Nestled under the Southern approach to Tower Bridge, families can learn how the engine room once powered the bridge lifts for over 80 years! It’s the perfect stop before visiting the gift shop directly above.
Tower Bridge hosts a relaxed opening on the third Saturday of every month for those who prefer a quieter visit. Here, families can enjoy a more relaxed atmosphere and spend a few hours learning about the bridge while sightseeing.
Tower Bridge, unfortunately, doesn’t have any cafes or restaurants on site. However, don’t worry, as plenty of open spaces are nearby, including Potters Field Park. This is the perfect spot for a relaxing lunch or picnic with your family. Alternatively, you could explore the many family-friendly cafes and restaurants in the heart of London and find something that suits your taste.
