There are plenty of options to choose from, including restaurants, museums, galleries (such as Tate St Ives), surf schools, beaches, and scenic walks. Here are some of the highlights that St Ives has to offer:
St Ives has four main beaches to choose from. Porthmeor, which faces the Atlantic Ocean, is the most popular with surfers. Porthminster Beach is conveniently located near train and bus transport links. If you are looking for a quieter option, Porthgwidden Beach, tucked away in the corner of Downalong, is a great choice. With its own beach huts, Porthgwidden Beach is perfect for families.
Art lovers should definitely visit Tate St Ives, which has been open to the public since 1993 and is popular with both locals and tourists. The architecture of the building itself is absolutely stunning, overlooking Porthmeor Beach with an iconic circular entrance. Inside, there are stunning collections of contemporary art, with a focus on the St Ives School and local artists like Alfred Wallis.
The Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden in St Ives showcases sculptures, paintings, and drawings by Barbara Hepworth, a leading figure of modern British art. In 1949, Hepworth created a studio and sculpture garden in central St Ives where she lived and worked for the rest of her life.
