Cadgwith Cove Cottages is a letting agency based in Cornwall that offers a wide selection of holiday cottages in and around Cadgwith, a charming coastal village located on the Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall. With approximately 50 properties available for rent, you can choose from various styles and designs, including traditional thatched fisherman’s cottages and contemporary modern homes.
Fishing boats have been operating from Cadgwith Cove for centuries. Observers standing on the beach can feel as if they’ve left the modern world behind with the jumble of bait boxes, crab pots, nets, and buoys surrounding them. The cove is hemmed in by eighteenth-century pilchard cellars and net lofts, with a winch house still used today. The Cadgwith boats are out at sea daily, potting for crab and lobster from April to December and netting for monkfish, mullet, ling, cod, and pollock all year round. The cove has appeared in several movies and TV shows, including Ladies in Lavender and The Fisherman’s Apprentice.
Cottages cluster along the wooded valley, many of which are at least 300 years old. Some are thatched, most have wonderful sea views, and a few have smugglers’ hidey-holes! The lifeboat house is home to the gig club, and the customs lock-up is now a gift and ice cream shop. The Old Cellars restaurant is a former pilchard works.
Just inland is Ruan Minor, with its post office and Village Store, farm shop, weekly markets at the village hall, a Grade Ruan Recreation Ground bar, and a tennis court. The hamlet of St Ruan is also close by. Both are only 10 10-minute walk from Cadgwith, and many visitors prefer to stay here as cottages usually have easier parking and are quieter.
If you plan to stay at the cottages, you’ll be pleased to know that they come with fully equipped kitchens, perfect for those who love cooking their own meals. But if you’re in the mood to explore the local food scene, you’re in for a real treat!
The Lizard is famous for its delicious pasties, and there are two amazing makers you should definitely check out. Gear Farm’s pasties are made with traditional methods and locally sourced ingredients, making them a real treat for your taste buds. On the other hand, Ann’s Pasties has been producing pasties for generations and is equally delicious.
If you’re in the mood for a light bite, head to Poldhu Beach Cafe. You can enjoy some ice cream, hot chocolate, or even pizza while enjoying the stunning views. The cafe also hosts live music events during summer, making it a perfect spot to chill out.
For something more substantial, Fat Apples Cafe is a great option. They offer a range of food options, including salads, sandwiches, and sausage rolls. Their salads are the real highlight, with fresh and colourful ingredients to satisfy you. The cafe’s garden is a great relaxing place, with comfy chairs and canvas awnings.
Remember that summer can get pretty busy, so it’s best to book ahead to avoid disappointment.
