Located in a peaceful rural area near Truro, Perranporth, St Agnes, and Newquay, a small farm provides a perfect getaway from the chaos and noise of the city. As soon as you arrive, you can unwind and feel like you’re on holiday by staying in a spacious cottage that promises a genuine home away from home experience.
Liz, Nick and their family-run Callestock Cottages have partnered with Home Spa Cornwall to provide high-end luxury spa treatments to guests right in the comfort and convenience of their cottage. You can choose from a wide range of beauty and holistic therapies and customise them to your liking, such as massages, reflexology, manicures, pedicures and more.
Each holiday cottage has a local walk library, circular walk books, and OS maps of the immediate area. Liz also maintains an OS Map library in the farmhouse for the entire Cornwall region.
Guests can join Liz on a farm tour around the Cornish meadows to meet the Jersey cows. Nick will be available at the milking parlour to teach about the milking process. If you visit during calving season, you might even see some babies. You can indulge in Roddas Cornish Clotted Cream and Butter during your stay, which is delicious!
Guests can also use the bikes provided to explore the peaceful country lanes around Callestock. The cycling route takes you through bridlepaths and leafy lanes down the valley to Perranporth. Once you get there, you can relax and recharge your batteries. On your way back up the hill to Callestock, you can stop by The Bolingey Inn, a fantastic country pub, for a refreshing drink or meal.
The county has many cycle trails; one of the most popular is the Camel Trail. Many visitors love to head up to Wadebridge and cycle alongside the estuary, taking in the local wildlife along the way to Padstow. If you bring your bike, safe and secure storage is available.
You can order a breakfast hamper ready for you upon arrival. The hamper includes locally sourced products such as 2 pints of Roddas whole milk, locally baked bread, bacon, sausages, eggs from the local pork butcher, Chywel Meadow at Goonhavern, cereal, Cornish Orchards apple juice, Roddas Cornish butter, and locally made marmalade. Don’t miss the chance to taste freshly baked Cornish pasties from the Aga every Tuesday in time for tea.
If you’re looking for an excellent Sunday lunch, head to the Bolingey Inn, which offers mouth-watering local meats and home-grown vegetables. Another superb option is the Miners Arms at Mithian, a traditional Cornish pub serving freshly prepared food made with the best Cornish produce that is just a short drive away.
Truro, the cathedral city, has many excellent restaurants and cafes. The Longstore offers superb value for money with its early bird menu, serving local food in a relaxed and friendly environment at reasonable prices, making it a popular choice. It’s essential to book in advance as it can be busy. Truro has plenty of options, whether you fancy a great burger (Hub Box or Sam’s), pizza, or tapas.
Located on a small and friendly farm, Orchard Cottage is a charming and peaceful cottage surrounded by its own garden. It’s a perfect destination for a family holiday and can accommodate up to two adults and two children.
The cottage features two spacious bedrooms. One has a king-size oak bed that overlooks the beautiful meadows, while the other has two 3-foot beds. Upstairs, there’s a luxurious shower room with a heated mirror and a towel rail. Downstairs, a well-equipped kitchen and dining area includes a cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher, and washer/dryer.
The charming lounge boasts Orla Kiely curtains and a wood-burning stove and opens out to the patio and garden through French doors. The lounge has a 47″ smart TV, DVD player, DAB radio, and free super-fast WIFI internet access. The ground floor of the cottage has underfloor heating.
If you’re heading to Newquay, turn off towards Crantock, a charming little village leading to the stunning sweep of Crantock Beach. There are delightful walks along the River Gannel. Holywell Bay is just around the corner from Crantock, and some scenes from the recent Poldark series were filmed there.
There are several beautiful beaches near the farm. A short drive from Callestock will take you to Perranporth, which boasts three miles of lovely beach and cliff-top walks. Another sandy bay called Fistral Beach is along the coast towards Newquay, where you can enjoy stunning views of Pentire Point.
Going westwards along the coast will take you to the St Agnes area, where you can visit the beaches at Trevaunance, Chapel Porth, and Porthtowan. These are on the South West Coast Path and offer spectacular cliff-top walks down to Godrevy. You may also catch a glimpse of the seals.
Trengwainton is a beautiful garden at the back of Penzance, offering delightful views of Mounts Bay. This garden is home to magnificent magnolias and rhododendrons. Trelissick Garden is also nearby.
The Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project are fantastic places to visit. They offer adventure trails and farm animals for a fun day out. You can also take the Open Top Bus for a magical tour around the stunning coastal route. The bus is an excellent way to see West Cornwall.
Bikes are available anytime at the farm, and maps are available to guide you. You can cycle to Callestick village and visit Healey’s Cyder Farm. On your way back, stop by Callestick Ice Cream to try some delicious treats! Walking or cycling along the Camel Trail at Wadebridge is an excellent way to see the wildlife along the Camel Estuary. You can spot various birds on the way – see how many you can spot!
If you prefer using buses, the nearest stop is in the middle of Zelah, which is only a 15-minute walk away. You can take a trip on one of the three pretty branch lines – The Looe Valley Line, The Maritime Line, and The St Ives Bay Line – all offering picturesque views of Cornwall.
Finally, a coast path walk is a must-do activity while in Cornwall. You will find a choice of five South West Coast Path Circular Routes to explore.
