Callow Top Holiday Park has provided a family-run camping and caravan site for over 40 years, winning multiple awards. It is situated in the picturesque countryside of Derbyshire and Staffordshire Peak District, offering easy access to nearby market towns like Ashbourne, Bakewell, Matlock, and Buxton. The holiday park has many facilities onsite, including a heated outdoor swimming pool, a fishing lake, and the Callow Inn pub. It’s an ideal destination for families looking for a perfect getaway.

Activities

The outdoor swimming pool on the site is heated to a comfortable temperature of 27°C and available for use from May to September. The pool area is fully enclosed, making it a safe and fun place for kids to enjoy. The site provides swimming accessories and toys for added enjoyment. Once you’ve had your fill of swimming, you can sit back, relax in one of the seating areas, and soak up some sun.

If you’re feeling adventurous, you can take a bike ride on the Tissington Trail cycle route, accessed directly from the site. This scenic route takes you on a 13-mile ride to Parsley Hay and gives you the option to join the High Peak Trail. Bikes can be hired from the nearby Ashbourne Bike Hire Centre, which is only a 15-minute walk away.

Fishing enthusiasts can visit the family-friendly fishing lake, where you can catch various fish such as Rudd, Roach, Tench, Perch, Carp, and more. The site has worked closely with the environmental agency to create a top-quality habitat for the fish. The lake is full of mature fish; some lucky people have even reeled in over 100 lbs. There are many available pegs, including ones for parent-child or disabled fishing. The lake is only a quarter of a mile away, and parking is available nearby. Families must bring their fishing gear, but there is a bird hide for wildlife enthusiasts with a refundable £5 deposit. You can also borrow bird-watching and wildlife books from reception.

Food

The Callow Inn is great for relaxing with your family and enjoying delicious pizzas and burgers. You can also take advantage of the spacious beer garden, perfect for soaking up the sun while enjoying a refreshing pint. If you have a well-behaved dog on a lead, you can bring them along, too.

The Callow Inn is open for dining in or takeaway meals and drinks every Friday and Saturday during the season and every evening throughout the Derbyshire school holidays. The food service is available until 8:30 pm when the establishment is open. They offer vegan and gluten-free options for those with dietary restrictions.

The establishment also has a mini shop on site where you can find all the essentials, from milk and bread to drinks and snacks. The shop also offers caravan accessories, including gas and spare parts.

Accommodation

Callow Top is an excellent camping and caravan site that has won several awards. All the electric pitches have hardstanding surfaces and come with a small grass area that you can use for awning pegs. You should bring heavy-duty rock pegs for your awning, but you can purchase them at the shop if you don’t have any. Conifer hedges separate the hardstanding pitches in field two to give you more privacy. Fields three and five offer open hardstanding pitches. You can book larger hardstanding pitches if you have a motorhome up to 30ft, a twin-axle caravan, or a caravan with a bedroom annexe. Please make sure to inquire about larger pitches when you’re booking. If you need public transport information in the area, you can get it here for motorhome or campervan services. The onsite facilities include Elsan chemical disposal, greywater disposal points, and a drive-over motorhome greywater disposal point.

For tents, the grass pitches are approximately 59ft x 30ft (18m x 9m), and they’re also suitable for small campervans. There is no electric hook-up on the grass pitches. The campers are not placed too close to one another to ensure everyone’s comfort. You can bring your fire pits if raised and covered with a mesh grill. The site is spacious, with plenty of room for children to play. It’s family-friendly and observes quiet time at 10.30 pm. Remember to bring a torch, as there’s minimal lighting onsite, which makes it perfect for stargazing.
