Gulval Cottages provides self-catering accommodation in the charming village of Gulval, near Penzance, in the stunning county of Cornwall. The cottage named Chyandaunce is a fantastic holiday cottage that offers superb accommodation. A high wall surrounds a courtyard and garden, which includes a separate small patio area. It is situated in the picturesque village of Gulval, just inland from Mount’s Bay. The beautiful St Michael’s Mount rises from the sea opposite Marazion’s sandy beaches and cafes.
The cottage is located in an ideal spot, allowing you to explore the Land’s End peninsula easily. You can visit its beaches, coves and coastal paths. The road that goes through the village leads to Mount’s Bay, which has a serene beach running from Penzance to Marazion. It is highly recommended that you visit the Mount and visit its castle.
Penzance is less than a mile away and can be reached within a 10-minute drive. This town offers various amenities, including restaurants. If you prefer to stay closer to the village, you can visit The Coldstreamer Pub, a good pub in the village square. The pub has a friendly atmosphere and is opposite the church. The interior features high beamed ceilings and exposed stone walls. Additionally, there is a stove in the seating area to the right of the L-shaped bar and a generously sized dining area to the left beyond the bar. The pub offers games such as shove-ha’penny, dominoes, chess and backgammon.
Chyandaunce, a 19th-century village house, has been extensively modernised to accommodate up to eight people. The home features a fully equipped kitchen with an electric cooker, microwave, fridge, freezer, and washing machine. An adjoining dining room is also available on the ground floor. On the same floor, a twin bedroom can be used en-suite with the main bathroom and toilet located three steps up. The large sitting room on the upper floor has two large settees, easy chairs, a colour T.V., and a DVD player. One of the settees is a double bed settee that can be used if required. There are two bedrooms on the upper floor: the back bedroom is a family room with a double bed, two bunk beds, and a washbasin, while the front bedroom has a king-sized bed and has been recently refurbished. Each bedroom is equipped with a wardrobe and drawer space.
Over the years, Chyandaunce has grown from a “two up, two down” cottage to a spacious modern house with P.V. panels and solar heating. The house has been redesigned, refurbished, and fully equipped for up to 8 people. The dining room on the ground floor has a T.V. Two double bedrooms are available on the upper floor, one with two additional bunk beds. A twin room is also available on the ground floor, adjoining the bathroom. Additionally, there is a shower room and toilet on the top landing. The large and comfortable lounge on the upper floor has a T.V. and DVD player.
St. Ives is a beautiful location just 6 miles away from Gulval village. It offers stunning beaches, the Tate St. Ives Art Gallery, and the Barbara Hepworth Sculpture Garden. It takes only 20 minutes by car to get there. Furthermore, buses pass through Gulval village every hour to St. Ives and Penzance. You can easily visit Land’s End and the Lizard Peninsula. The Eden Project is also a favourite day trip destination.
The Chysauster Ancient Village in New Mill is an excellent place to visit to discover an ancient Iron Age settlement. You can explore the remains of the stone houses and unravel the mystery of the underground ‘fogou’ tunnel!
The Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens is a significant attraction near Penzance in west Cornwall. It offers a dramatic landscape, exotic and sub-tropical planting, and inspiring art by internationally renowned artists. You can find it in a beautiful sheltered valley overlooking St Michael’s Mount, with woods and a stream interwoven with an evolving program of contemporary artwork. Tremenheere hosts its sculpture gardens, gallery, shop, nursery, and restaurant within this breathtaking location.
St. Michael’s Mount is just half a mile from the village, with a beach extending to Marazion and St. Michael’s Mount. The gently sloping beach is an excellent place for swimmers and wind-surfers. Visitors can roam its beautiful gardens while looking out over the sea or climb to the castle and wander through its grand rooms, pausing at windows to watch the waves below. The Coastal Path runs along the bay’s edge beyond Marazion and can take you to The Lizard Peninsula.
There are many lively places around the bay, like Newlyn, which has its fish market, artistic tradition, and Mousehole. Further towards Land’s End are the delightful coves and beaches of Lamorna, Penberth, Porthcurno (with the Minack Theatre high on the cliffs), and Porthgwarra, which should be noticed.
Penzance is less than a mile from Gulval Cottages and is the nearest shopping centre, with excellent restaurants and shops. The permanent exhibition of the Newlyn School of Artists is in Penlee Gardens, which has a good cafe. In the spring, the National Trust gardens at Trengwainton are particularly glorious.
On the Penzance Promenade is the Lido, an attractive open-air swimming pool that fills with seawater. Further around the Promenade is the Queen’s Hotel, where you can eat a buffet lunch in their dining room overlooking the bay.
Boat trips to see seals or fish for mackerel set out from the harbour here and St. Ives.
Apart from the many beaches, children may enjoy the exotic biosphere at the Eden Project, learn more about sea life at the Seal Sanctuary at Gweek, or bird life at The Birds of Paradise Park at Hayle. There’s family fun on the rides at Flambard’s Theme Park at Helston.
Gulval is a beautiful place to visit with your family. It is located at the narrowest part of the peninsula, which extends from St. Ives on the north coast to Penzance on the south coast, all the way to Land’s End. There are plenty of exciting things to do in the area, such as exploring the Coastal Path, discovering beautiful coves and beaches, visiting sites of archaeological interest, and exploring charming villages and bustling towns.
