Eight self-catering character stone cottages in an idyllic North Devon location with a purpose-built accessible on-site children’s farm offering twice daily farm activities.
North Hayne Farm offers fun and relaxation for all ages. They have a purpose-built, accessible children’s farm on site, which offers twice-daily activities that support learning within the Early Years and Key Stage 1 curriculum. The farm is also suitable for all children with additional needs. They are the first self-catering business in North Devon to receive an Autism friendly award.
The farm has sheep, alpacas, ducks, hens, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, goats, and pigs, which children can meet and feed. Once feeding time is over, the little helpers can enjoy a free donkey ride.
They run Farm Hands sessions for children over six who want to participate and learn about animal care. These sessions run every Monday during school holidays and cover animal grooming, cleaning, handling, and nest box cleaning. Suitable clothing and wellies are required, but overalls and disposable gloves will be provided. Participants will receive a Farm Hands certificate, a Farm Hands Badge, and a mid-morning break with a drink and a biscuit.
There is an indoor play barn for under 7s, equipped with sit-and-ride toys, playhouses, train and road sets, and many wall posters, books, and jigsaws. A settee is provided for grown-ups in case you get a chance to relax! Next to the play barn is the games room with a coin-operated pool table, free table tennis table, dart board, card table and settee. There are also a large number of books and games that you can borrow and take back to your cottage.
The farm offers a variety of activity trails and challenges for visitors to explore the grounds and discover fun finds all year round. The activities include seasonal Bug Hunts, Gizzy Gizmo Challenge, Squabbling Squirrels, Stick Man, Bear Hunt, Night Monkey, Day Monkey challenge.
Children can enjoy lots of outdoor play equipment, including two purpose-built areas with swings and slides. The farm’s tractor park is well stocked. And the kids will love Farmer Reg’s mechanical workshop for hours of role-play, book in your tractor for its MOT, charge up your EV, work on reception and answer the phone.
They have a brilliant den build base equipped with basic den structures and building materials. All you need to do is have a go at building a den that doesn’t fall over….
And if parents need a little ‘me-time’, they offer a babysitting service from experienced and insured carers.
North Devon and Exmoor have plenty of options for food and drink lovers. Annual festivals, farmers’ markets, and various dining spots make it easy to find excellent local produce and top-quality restaurants and pubs. Some great recommendations include The Masons Arms, Knowstone, The Grove, Kings Nympton, The Bell, Chittlehampton, and The Stags Head, Filliegh.
Don’t miss the local FoodFest in autumn, which showcases the best of North Devon from over 100 suppliers. It takes place over a weekend in October in the Barnstaple Panier market.
For a more relaxed dining experience, try the locally sourced JackChilli frozen meal range, which offers a variety of delicious meals. Upon booking confirmation, guests can pre-order meals from local chef John to their cottage.
The farm has eight beautiful, family-friendly cottages, each with its own private Hot Tub.
Katie’s Corner is a lovely one-story character cottage that overlooks a pond. It’s perfect for couples, grandparents, or small families. The cottage features an enclosed patio garden with a private hot tub and an electric patio heater. It can accommodate up to three guests and a baby cot.
Tom Kitten is a single-storey, mid-terrace cottage, perfect for families with young children or needing easy access. It has a capacity of 4 people plus a cot and comes with its own private hot tub. The cottage is also accessible for those with mobility needs.
Jemima Puddleduck is a three-storey cottage with character beams perfect for families of all ages. It features a private enclosed decking area and a large private hot tub, making it ideal for two families to share. The cottage can accommodate up to six people and also has a cot available. Additionally, for larger groups, Jemima Puddleduck can be booked together with Mrs Tiggywinkle (next door) to accommodate up to 11 people.
Mrs Tiggywinkle is a charming three-storey cottage with character-beamed interiors, perfect for smaller families. It has a private enclosed decking area and a large hot tub to relax in. The cottage can accommodate up to 5 people, plus a cot for a baby. If you’re travelling in a larger group, you can book Mrs Tiggywinkle with Jemima Puddleduck (the next-door cottage) to accommodate up to 11 people.
Samuel Whiskers is a beautiful and spacious character cottage spread over three floors, with charming wooden beams and an enclosed garden. It used to be an old coach house with external stone steps leading to the first floor. The cottage sleeps six people plus a cot, making it perfect for a family stay. Additionally, it features a log burner, which is ideal for a cosy night in, and a private hot tub that provides a relaxing and enjoyable experience.
Peter Rabbit is a two-level mid-terrace cottage, perfect for smaller families. It has an enclosed garden and a private hot tub, accommodating up to four people and a cot.
Squirrel Nutkin is a spacious two-level cottage with bedrooms on the ground floor and an enclosed garden featuring a large private hot tub. Sleeps 6 (+2) and includes a cot.
Jeremy Fisher is a spacious character cottage ideal for large families or two families sharing. Ground floor access is perfect for anyone with mobility considerations. Sleeps 10 + cot. Log burner and private hot tub.
