There’s even a free book library for those who want to escape for a while.

Petruth Paddocks is a haven where kids can be kids, and there are no pesky rules and regulations. You can let them run around, scream, climb trees, and make new friends. They believe in a live-and-let-live atmosphere, where campfires are encouraged, music and bad singing are welcome, and you can wander around without a care in the world. A definite must-try is to hire a fire-pit and grab marshmallows from the reception area for a cozy evening. You can also sign up at reception for a tour of the farm animals or take the footpath into Cheddar and see the famous Gorge. There is an activity area for kiddies in the centre of the family field, where your children are free to clamber on old cable reels, sleepers, tractor tyres and Mr Landy the abandoned Landrover, perfect for climbing and jumping around.

There is plenty of space to roam around, hide in the hedges, and even take a ride on the quad bike with Jules, the site is all about being free without PC rules. They have individual toilet cubicles, shower cubicles, and washing up bays available.

There are picnic benches near the play spaces, for parents to keep a watchful eye on their toddlers. You can grab the essentials, such as drinks, snacks, toiletries, and other bits and bobs, at the licensed shop in Reception. They also have a bean to cup coffee machine for when you just need a good cup of coffee and don’t want to wait in line at the shack.

Food

The site is well equipped for cooking with a campfire and campfire meals are highly recommended. Visitors can bring their own cooking equipment or enjoy a weekend meal at the food shack. From May to September, fresh tea and proper coffee are on sale at the pop-up café. There are also pubs and takeaways in nearby Cheddar – you can even get pizza delivered to you on-site.

They have a great food shack serving locally sourced burgers, Paninis, loaded chips, baked potatoes in the evening and breakfast rolls in the morning (Vegetarian, gluten free & dairy free options available). All washed down with great coffee, tea, iced milkshakes and hot chocolate!

Just a 10 minute walk from reception (or a few minute’s drive), is Sainsburys for the bigger shop.

It’s a laid-back environment that promotes mutual respect and encourages guests to enjoy themselves to the fullest.
