Secret Meadows offers a fantastic experience for families and nature lovers alike, with a wide range of fun and exciting outdoor activities available. From Bushcraft and Whittling workshops to exploring the natural trails, guests can fully immerse themselves in the beauty of the great outdoors and reconnect with nature in a way that is truly unique.
One of the main draws of Secret Meadows is the farm’s commitment to nature conservation. With over fifty different bird species, including the nightingale, song thrush, bullfinch, and kingfisher, the farm provides a safe haven for wildlife. Additionally, the farm supports numerous endangered species, such as the turtle dove, grasshopper warbler, and great crested newt. This natural wonderland has escaped modern farming practices, making it an oasis of biodiversity that has been left to nature since the 1950s.
If you’re looking for some hands-on fun, you’ll be pleased to know that there are plenty of activities to keep you busy during your stay. For example, you can hire a hen coop and take turns collecting eggs. For those who are feeling adventurous, you can also sign up for a Bow & Arrow making workshop, where you’ll learn how to make a simple wooden bow and arrow and have the chance to practice using targets. Alternatively, you can participate in a Whittling Workshop, where you’ll have the opportunity to carve your own unique object from wood, such as a staff, wand, spoon, or knife. The workshop usually takes place in the woodland at the nature reserve and is open to both adults and children over the age of 6. All participants must be accompanied by an adult.
After a day spent exploring the great outdoors, what could be better than relaxing in a private hot tub under the stars? Secret Meadows offers the ultimate holiday treat with its hand-made wooden hot tub, heated by a wood-burner and set in a private space at the back of Selfheal tent. With woodland on one side and views of the stars above, this is the perfect way to unwind after a day of adventure.
Other attractions on the farm include a large turf labyrinth that attracts nightingales every year, providing a fun challenge for families. The farm also boasts a variety of animals, including hens, rabbits, and Red Poll and British White cattle that help to maintain the meadow through grazing. If you want to get to know these friendly creatures better, you can book the Meet the Animals activity, which includes a walk to the cattle if they are grazing a meadow.
When it’s time to eat, each self-catering unit comes equipped with a kitchen – but if you’re not in the mood to cook, you can always walk to the locally renowned Turk’s Head pub. For a more scenic dining experience, check out The Maybush at Waldringfield or The Ramsholt Arms near Shottisham. And if you need a caffeine fix or a hearty breakfast, head to the Barn Café in Hasketon village or the Tea Hut by the River Deben in Woodbridge.
There’s also an awesome little pantry shop that’s stocked by the fantastic team over at Grange Farm Shop. They’re the ones who also supply the luxurious food hampers chock-full of high-quality, locally-sourced goodies. You can always count on staples like milk, butter, cheese, and pasta (although availability may vary, so it’s best to order fresh produce from the farm shop for your arrival day). But if you find that you need anything else during your stay, Grange Farm Shop is only a quick ten-minute drive away by car. Alternatively, you can easily order groceries through their online portal and have them ready and waiting for you on your arrival day (usually up until 7 pm).
