They’ve designed their boutique retreats to make sure everyone, especially your kids, has a great time, and they have certainly taken the WOW factor to a whole new level. They have loads of fun stuff for all ages, like colourful lights over the bunk beds, a telescope in each retreat and stacks of board games. Plus, there’s tons of stuff to do nearby, like theme parks, surfing, and miles of coastline to explore. It’s dog friendly also so that you can bring your furry family along.

Activities

Sleepy Owl retreats are located on 20 acres of private land with an incredible natural backdrop. You can take a walk with your kids through the wildflower fields, the winding river and the woods right outside your retreat. Sleepy Owl is an ideal spot for stargazing, as the area is a dark-sky region. Each retreat has a telescope so the kids can enjoy an exciting stargazing experience. You can also relax in a hammock on the terrace or in your hot tub while admiring the stars. And they say the view is simply breathtaking.

This place is all about taking a break and having fun with your family. You’ll find tons of things to do together inside the retreats. There are board games, books, and magazines for adults and kids. Plus, you’ll have binoculars and picnic bag packs to explore the outdoors. You can forget about your regular life and enjoy the natural beauty around you. And the best part? You’ll have a personal cinema! Hire the popcorn machine, relax, and watch the latest movies on a huge projector screen in your living room.

Food

If you love cooking, even on holiday, don’t worry; each retreat has a fully equipped kitchen, including an electric oven and hob. For your caffeine fix, they have Nespresso machines, and they even provide you with pods and fresh local ground coffee. You’ll also find salt, pepper, olive oil, and vinegar stocked in the cupboard. For home cooking with a difference, each retreat has a private outdoor wood-fired pizza oven that comes equipped with a BBQ and everything needed for the ultimate chargrilled, alfresco feast. For £15pp, Sleepy Owls will provide you with pizza base dough, rustic tomato base sauce, grated mozzarella and a choice of meat or veggie toppings. Note that pizza boxes must be pre-booked in advance.

If you’re in the mood for a break from cooking, Sleepy Owls can arrange for a private chef to come to your retreat and prepare a delicious, locally sourced meal. This way, all you have to do is sit back, relax and choose the perfect wine!

Away from the retreats, you’ll find some of the best South West restaurants. Just up the road is Pattard Restaurant. This award-winning place is an old milking parlour transformed into a relaxed dining space, serving yummy dishes inspired by nature. For coffee, cake and homecooked breakfasts and lunches, check out Coffee on the Square in Hartland. great for dogs, too! And the kids will love tasting the freshly made battered fish, burgers and pies qt Shamrock Fish & Chips. You certainly won’t go hungry!

Nest Treehouse

This beautiful hand-crafted treehouse is designed with luxury in mind, with your very own wood-fired hot tub in the courtyard, a gold roll-top double bath in the bedroom and a cinema projector. Bath under the stars in the outdoor bath or enjoy a drink on a private terrace. Prep wood-fired pizza outdoors or kick back and relax in the hammock and listen to the birds chirping – slow down and immerse yourself in nature. For children, there is a treehouse within the treehouse for them to explore, complete with bunk beds and colour-changing lights.

Hideout Treehouse

This awesome boutique treehouse is packed with cool features that are perfect for taking Insta-worthy family photos. It’s been styled and designed with much love and attention to detail. The treehouse even has the first-ever moving indoor-outdoor copper bathtub! Using the cinema projector, you can open the bifold doors wide to bring the outdoors in or watch a movie with the kids. There’s a private terrace and a wood-fired hot tub. You can swing in a hammock while listening to birds singing or cook up a storm using the BBQ and wood-fired pizza oven.

Cosy Cowshed

This boutique-style converted cowshed features a super king size bed, a wood fired hot tub and stunning views of the Devon countryside. There is a large master bedroom that opens out onto the terrace and a twin room for the children featuring a magical canopy that they sleep beneath. Two pets are welcome too.

Nearby

If you’re fond of both the coast and countryside, Sleepy Owl is the perfect place for you. Though it’s hidden away in a secret valley, it’s still within walking distance of the village. It’s also located just a short distance from both pebble and sandy beaches, as well as miles of stunning countryside. This makes it ideal for any family looking to explore the breathtaking Devon or Cornish coast. Hartland Quay is your closest location to take the kids for a paddle. Nearby you’ll also find Westward Ho!, Bude sea pool, Summerleaze beach or Crooklets.

For family days out, there is lots just on the doorstep. The Milky Way Adventure Park is great for a family day out with both indoor and outdoor attractions. Or go and enjoy sheep racing and cuddling baby animals at The Big Sheep. If it’s animals that float their boat, you’ve also got Exmoor Zoo and Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park within driving distance. Check out nearby Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway for something a bit different or take the chance to explore beautiful Lundy Island.

If the weather is good, you can hire bikes, take off and explore The Tarka Trail, which runs in a 180 mile figure-of-eight passing through beautiful coastal and inland towns and villages. Your nearest bike hire is available at Bideford, right next to the trail – Bideford Bicycle Hire.
