Sutton Bank Bikes Is an excellent family cycle centre based at the nearby Sutton Bank National Park Centre with a purpose-built skills area, pump track and a choice of three picturesque trails ranging from a 3.5-mile family route to an 18-mile red-graded trail.
The area has many excellent walking routes, ranging from short strolls to the infamous 40-mile Lyke Wake Walk, traditionally completed in under 24 hours. A popular family route nearby is a beautiful 7-mile stretch from Helmsley’s picturesque market town (4 miles from the lodges) to the historic Reivaulx Abbey. The walk is ideal for history enthusiasts, nature lovers, and those searching for stunning panoramic views.
If you’re looking for some horse-riding action, you’re in luck! Plenty of local riding stables offer sessions for all ages and skill levels.
Rugged Outdoors allows you to explore nature through Bushcraft and survival sessions designed to cater to all ages. The program offers the opportunity to learn survival skills akin to adventurers like Bear Grylls or Ray Mears. The program covers various essential skills, such as lighting a fire using several techniques, constructing a den for protection against harsh weather, extracting water from trees, and making nettle tea!
The lodges may appear secluded, but there are plenty of options for fine dining, charming country pubs, and quaint coffee shops just a short car ride away.
The White Swan in Ampleforth is a welcoming and laid-back pub that offers a choice between formal fine dining and bar food served before an open fire. Additionally, there is a complimentary taxi service to and from The White Swan.
The White Horse Inn, also located in Ampleforth, is a former 18th-century coaching inn boasting log fires, oak-beamed ceilings, flagstone floors, candlelit tables, and a warm, friendly atmosphere. The inn offers a wide range of meal options, traditional hand-pulled guest beers such as Timothy Taylor, Wold Gold, Anglers Reward, and Black Sheep, and fine wines by the glass.

Each lodge has three double en-suite rooms and can accommodate up to six people. The lodges feature an open-plan living area with full-height glass sliding doors leading to a large private decking area. Enjoy outdoor dining, sunbathing, or stargazing while relaxing in your hot tub.
The lodges are equipped with stylish wood burners, and a starter log pack is provided free of charge. Underfloor heating ensures a cosy stay all year round, and electric barbeques are provided for use in the decking area.

St Alban’s is a recreation centre owned by Ampleforth College, available for all guests. The centre features a 25m heated swimming pool, a fully equipped fitness suite with the latest X-Bike equipment, squash and badminton courts, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, and a sports hall hire for indoor football, hockey, and basketball, as well as cricket nets. St Alban’s is located just a five-minute drive from Studford Lodges.
